Andrew Gately

Andrew Gately is Senior Commercial Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul, Korea. He previously served as Deputy Senior Commercial Officer at the American Institute in Taiwan. During his tenure in Taiwan, Andrew and his team were awarded the Department of Commerce's top honor, the Gold Medal, for successfully attracting a $40 billion semiconductor fab to the United States.


Prior to Taiwan, at the U.S. Embassy in Brasília, Brazil, Andrew was embassy lead for the U.S.-Brazil Commercial Dialogue, the U.S.-Brazil CEO Forum, and coordinated the U.S. government’s Brazil Infrastructure Cluster.


Andrew also served at the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Miami and the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou, China. Before joining the Commercial Service, Andrew was an analyst at the U.S. International Trade Commission, focused on services trade. Prior to entering government service, Andrew worked in the semiconductor and banking industries.


Andrew received his BA in anthropology from Wake Forest University and his MA in international relations from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). He is married and has two children.
