From the early 1990s, when Korea began localizing its nuclear power plant (NPP) construction capabilities, Mr. Choi has accumulated extensive hands-on experience at major domestic and international sites. This includes his successful leadership experiences at large-scale nuclear power plants, having worked as Site Director of both Shin-Kori Units 3 and 4 (2014–2016) and the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE (2017–2020).
Since 2020, as Head of the Nuclear Energy Business group, Mr. Choi has spearheaded Hyundai E&C’s entry into the Small Modular Reactor (SMR) market. In 2021, he concluded an exclusive joint development agreement for Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) with US-based Holtec International.
In 2022, under his leadership, Hyundai E&C became the first Korean construction company to participate in the Indian Point nuclear decommissioning project in the U.S., achieving a major milestone by signing an MOU for the development of a spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
In 2024, Mr. Choi secured a large-scale NPP design contract for the Kozloduy nuclear power plant project in Bulgaria, marking a major step in expanding Hyundai E&C’s global nuclear business.
Building on this extensive experience and set of accomplishments, he currently serves as the inaugural Head of Hyundai E&C’s New Energy Division, overseeing the company’s nuclear, power transmission, and renewable energy businesses, and leading its comprehensive future energy strategy
