Competition

At 10 am on Thursday, March 9, 2023, the U.S. Embassy in South Korea will host a pitching competition with 6 startups.

 

Deadline

  • Companies must submit completed applications by February 9 (See Application Form). 

  • On February 27, the finalists will be announced.  

 

Applicants will have four minutes to present or “Pitch” their business idea or technology to a panel of judges.  Followed by four minutes of question and answer period after each "Pitch".

 

The winning startup will receive 1 free SelectUSA Tech ticket to the 2023 SelectUSA Investment Summit (May 1 - 4).  This provides the winner with:

​

  • access to the entire Investment Summit,

  • Exclusive space in the SelectUSA Tech Pavilion to present, share, and network your tech product and/or service

  • participation in talks on how to finance and scale startups,

  • participation in the SelectUSA Tech Investment Academy, where companies will hear about investment trends and opportunities in key industry subsectors, as well as on topics like smart cities, soft-landing programs, startup ecosystems in the United States, and more,

  • access to the invite-only networking opportunities,

  • participation in 1-on-1 meetings with U.S. economic development officials, accelerators, incubators and

  • Participation in a regional pitching session at the SelectUSA Investment Summit in May 2023.  Regional pitching sessions will be judged by VCs, angel investors, incubators representatives and others with regional expertise.

Reviewing Applications and Selecting Participants

All Korean Startup companies will be invited to submit an application to participate in the 2023 SelectTech Pitching competition.  The U.S. Embassy Seoul will collect the applications and forward the applications to the judges.  The judges will be asked to rank the applications and the top six will be asked to pitch before the judges.  Applicants will be contacted directly if more information is needed.

Startups pre-selected for the March 9 competition will be informed on February 27 by 17:00 (KST) of their selection.

Pitch Session

PITCHING SESSION AND Q&A WILL BE PERFORMED IN ENGLISH. 

Criteria

Pitch proposals will be judged on the following factors:
 

  • Completeness

  • Adherence to the requested format and length

  • Strength and clarity of responses

  • U.S. market readiness (Is the product/design/concept well-developed and ready for entry into the U.S. market? Does the company have the right team and plans in place to achieve its objectives?)
